The Registrar has dismissed all the applications against the marriage of Charles Windsor and Camilla Parker – Bowles, but there is still the possibility of an appeal presumably as far as the House of Lords.
The wedding is still therefore not certain.
Whatever out personal thoughts on this matter, this is a love that has endured, and in a nation not renowned for the stability of relationships it stands out.
Ok, I know what you are thinking, he was unfaithful to Diana: sadly in our society where the main role of the Heir is to produce a successor from a select band of prospects what has love or faithfulness got to do with it. In horse racing circles they call it going to stud.
I am sure both sides of the bargain knew its purpose – to maintain that select few in their privileged positions of wealth and power.
The rule both broke was speaking out, thus making fact that which many suspected. Remember, its not so long ago the Royal Mistress was a position of respect, and how many titled families to day spring form such liaisons.
There have also been applications made on sincerely held religious views. Before we throw the baby out with the bath water, let us reflect on the origins of our established Church.
Remember Henry VIII and his pursuit of the Royal Heir. Not hugely auspicious beginnings for this branch of the faith.
All Christian sects, to the best of my knowledge, make a virtue of tolerance and compassion.
