"Original Sin"

Original Sin: What a concept. I wonder how long it took Moses to write Genesis—you know, that apple and the snake story. It has been with us for a long time. What is interesting is the concept of Original Sin is pre-DNA. Liberal Protestant theologians in the 18th Century who rejected the church doctrine of Original Sin really believed that all human beings are born equal—so not true. Some of us are born smart, some not-so-smart. –Some of us are inherently good, some with a mean streak. So is DNA the source of Original Sin? You can make a good case for that but I think there is something deeper. There is Animal Nature and there is Higher Nature. We are born into Animal Nature. We have to learn Higher Nature. It’s very complicated. Animal Nature is stuff like hunger, thirst, sex, aggression, greed, etc. and I am not sure that human beings have fully figured out Higher Nature yet but it seems like something you have to grow into because of a decision to do so and put out the effort and the will to follow through on it. It is sort of like being –reborn.
