Lent for the 21st Century
Lent For The 21st Century…..
The story of Jesus is the Great Story of Transformation in the Western World as is the story of Buddha in Asia and the Story of the Koran in Arabia. The way to learn from the story is not to give it lip service in creeds or doctrines or beliefs but to live the story: to be a walking Gospel, a walking Buddha or a walking Koran. Jesus in the Fast we call Lent, was walking to Jerusalem with hundreds of his fellow Jews to celebrate Passover. Who are you walking with to Jerusalem and the death and transformation he would experience there? It is a very powerful story and if you live the story rather then remember it as some old Sunday School tale, amazing changes can happen in the way you experience the world just as Jesus experienced in his own life, death and transformation. Who is the Woman at the Well who you should not be talking to? Who is the wounded soul of the Good Samaritan that the others passed by? Who is the leper that only Jesus would embrace? Who is the neighbor who just needs to be loved as you love yourself? It ain’t easy and there are no simple answers. The transformation comes from living the story in the friction between the soul and self and keep walking to Jerusalem and death…and the transformation we call Easter.
