Pro-Life AND Pro-Choice

I am both Pro-Life and Pro-Choice and for me, it is not a problem. It is two different issues and they should never overlap: the ethical issue versus the legal issue. The ethical issue is simple. When you terminate a pregnancy you are extinguishing a spark of life that has existed since the very beginning of time. A decision not to be taken lightly and to be avoided if possible. But there are times when for medical reasons, emotional, psychological or situational that ending a pregnancy may be the best for all concerned. Particularly in case of rape or incest. It is a private decision. It is the woman’s decision. You can counsel her but you should not make the decision for her. The legal issue is equally simple. When does the government have the right to make a woman’s private ethical decision for her? In a democracy, the government should never have that right.
