Race is Real....

Race is real. We all have it. Our skin has color: white, brown, black, yellow, red, and many mixed variations and with it comes the cultural stories about who we are.
God created man and woman in his likeness goes the story in the Jewish and Christian Bibles. I guess God is a very, many, splendored thing and so are we. We must celebrate who we are. I love the music, art and philosophy of my European ancestors, I love the spirituality and the beauty of my Asian cousins. I love the faith and the dignity of the African people who experienced toxic colonialism from Europeans. I celebrate the spirit and survival of native peoples who suffered the destruction of their families and languages.
I cherish my European art and culture and philosophy…but not the toxic politics and economics that took advantage people who were not like us. I am white and I celebrate people who are not like me. I learn from them. And I am hurt when I hear the stories of what my people did to their people.

I can’t change the world. I can’t change the evening news. But I can open my heart and stop seeing the world as a battle ground of us versus them and start living in a world of a common humanity facing a very difficult future.

The future, like God, is a many splendored thing.
